European Union:
European Supply Chain Directive CSDDD published in the Official Journal

On July 5, 2024, the Corporate Sustainability Due Diligence Directive (CSDDD) was published in the Official Journal of the European Union (Directive (EU) 2024/1760). The directive must be transposed into national law by July 2026. It can be assumed that this will take place in Germany through corresponding amendments to the German Supply Chain Due Diligence Obligations Act, among other things.

The application of the CSDDD regulations will gradually become mandatory for companies in the EU:

  • 3 years after entry into force for companies with more than 5,000 employees and a global net turnover > 1,500 million euros,
  • 4 years after entry into force for companies with more than 3,000 employees and a worldwide net turnover > 900 million euros and
  • 5 years after entry into force for companies with more than 1,000 employees and a worldwide net turnover > 450 million euros.

The WPK reported on the compromise proposal under “New on WPK.de” from March 19, 2024 and on the approval of the European Parliament and the Council of the European Union under “Neu auf WPK.de” from May 27, 2024 (in German).
